School Together Equal Programme (STEP) is aligned with KS2/3 PSHE Citizenship Curriculum.

What is it?

Our school programme is currently open to Y6/7/8/9 students. It’s a 10-week programme with a 45-minute class each week, focusing on building children’s self-esteem, self-confidence, conflict resolution skills, understanding healthy relationships, building communication skills and helping them to feel connected to their families and community. It’s aligned with the KS2/KS3 PSHE and Citizenship curriculum. We have developed a modular learning programme for Y6/7 as a starting point, schools can opt for the sessions picking which works best for them or we can develop tailored programmes depending on your objectives.

Y6 focus: We explore the concepts of fairness, social stereotypes, working together, positive and negative thoughts and the basic premise of what makes you, you.

Y7 focus: We work with students to examine the impacts of social media, friendship groups and behavior on the wellbeing of themselves and others.

We are able to offer free workshops to local primary schools which are funded from the income we generate via our corporate workshops. Contact us for further information.

Our Approach

Our approach is very interactive and pupil lead. Children are encouraged to explore issues around equality, fairness and mental health without fear of judgement, with activities remaining child-led and discussions supported by the session leader.

During games, children are exposed to experiences of losing, unfairness and competition in a constructive way, facilitated by the session leader and building the awareness of the group. Games also encourage a variety of social skills, such as listening, turn-taking, risk, empathy and teamwork.

The sessions focusing on mental health and self-worth allow the children to explore their more difficult thoughts and feelings in a safe space, with the support of staff and peers. The approach allows for acceptance and precessions of these feelings free from shame and judgement. In order to promote positive mental health, these sessions are created in a safe space for children to accept negative feelings and challenge some of these to promote a more positive practice of self talk.

The content was pitched perfectly and Sarah was amazing - really engaged the children and made them feel relaxed. This meant they were able to talk openly and honestly.
